The Musical Theatre Tag

If you read my blog you will know that I am a huge Musical Theatre fan, so much so that I'm even training in it professionally! I went with my dance school to see Jersey Boys this week as a graduate  (Michael Watson) from our school was playing the lead Frankie Valli. It was incredible (even more so than the first time I saw it) and so I thought for todays blog post I would do a Musical Theatre Tag! Keep reading to hear my answers to the tag...

1. What was the first musical you ever saw? The first musical I ever saw in the West End was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I went with my whole family to celebrate my little sisters birthday and I remember it being the moment that I definitely decided Musical Theatre was what I wanted to do!

2. What was your favourite musical growing up? When I was younger I was obsessed with Annie the Musical, I always went round singing the songs and I even had the famous red dress in my dressing up drawer!

3. Were you ever in a musical? Yeah I've done loads, I used to attend Stagecoach and so I did a lot of amateur musicals with them. But as a child I was also chosen to be in the choir for Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat for their UK tour!

4. What was the first musical you saw on Broadway? Unfortunately, being from the UK, I've never had a chance to visit New York and see a show on Broadway. I'd love to; it's on my list of things I want to do. Luckily though I've managed to see 29 different shows in the West End instead!

5. If you could be any female character in a musical, who would you be and why? I think that I'd pick Elle Woods from Legally Blonde because she'd be such a fun character to play. And I love how her character develops from the "dumb blonde" girl to study and become a lawyer by the end of the musical. If I were younger, I'd also love to play Matilda in Matilda the Musical as that was one of my favourite films growing up!

6. Which male character? I'd probably pick Billy in Billy Elliot because I love the songs and it would be so fun to dance that much on stage each night.

7. Favourite musical song to sing in the shower? I think it's always fun to belt out a bit of the Wicked soundtrack in the shower, Defying Gravity is a particular favourite of mine...!

8. Who is your favourite musical theatre actress? I am completely obsessed with Carrie Hope Fletcher and I am so sad that she finished her run in Les Misérables last night! But I also do love a bit of Idina Menzel and Sutton Foster, they're two American musical theatre greats!

9. Actor? I really love Aaron Tveit as he was so so incredible as Enjolras in the film version of Les Misérables.

10. Favourite film adaptation of a musical? I would much rather see a musical live as that's where the magic happens! But if I had to choose I'd pick Annie as I've seen it too many times to count growing up but I am also a huge version of Cats, Grease and Mamma Mia!

11. What do you think is the most underrated musical? Definitely Heathers the Musical! It's one of my favourites and I really can't understand why it didn't make it to Broadway and then get transferred over here to the UK. I've still got my fingers crossed though!

12. Overrated musical? I really can't think of one...

13. What musical made you cry? Definitely Les Misérables! I saw this during summer with my dad  (read more here) and I cried literally the whole way through; it was so real, their voices were so stunning and I couldn't stop the tears from flowing!

14. What musical made you laugh? Book of Mormon was an incredible funny show, the things they say make you laugh so much and you leave the theatre questioning whether it was socially okay to say some of the things they do... Watch it, trust me and you'll understand what I mean! I also found Forbidden Broadway and Monty Python's Spamalot particularly funny.

15. Are there any musicals you saw and hated? I've never hated a musical as such, as I love Musical Theatre so much that believe that there is always something good in a musical! But I did get a tad bored watching Bend it Like Beckham and Evita...

16. What musical do you want to see as a film? I'd love to see either Book of Mormon or Wicked as a film.

17. Which musicals are you dying to see? I have a list on my phone of musicals I'm dying to see, which includes: Lion King, Beautiful the Musical, Aladdin (when it starts in May), Bodyguard the Musical (when it opens in July), Mamma Mia and Phantom of the Opera. I'm also dying to see Les Misérables again!

18. Any movie or book you think should be turned into a musical? I should have been asked this years ago and my reply would have definitely been Matilda the Musical, but luckily I've got my wish!

19. What is your all-time favourite musical? As I'm obsessed with Musical Theatre I really really struggle to decide on one, so I've managed to cut it down to five! They are (in no particular order): Les Misérables, Matilda the Musical, Legally Blonde, Heathers the Musical and Newsies!

I hope you enjoyed reading my Musical Theatre tag! I'd love to know your answers so if you can leave a link or your answers in the comments, I'd love to give them a read! Thank you for reading,

Sugar Free Pancakes

I have recently started a sugar detox which means that I don't eat any processed sugars and I can only eat foods that don't contain sugar! So far, it has been easier than I originally thought it would be and I am already feeling the benefits!

It was Pancake Day yesterday, I didn't want to let my not eating sugar stop me from enjoying one of my favourite days of the year! Therefore, I researched and found a recipe by Davina McCall which allows me to enjoy the day without the guilt of the sugar! Find out how I made them below:

  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • 225 unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 vanilla pod
  • 175 spelt flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
Firstly add the lemon juice and milk to a jug and stir well; leave for about 5 minutes so that the mixture becomes homemade buttermilk! This will make it sour and will make the pancakes fluffier.

Then beat the egg and add into your buttermilk mixture. Once combined add in the vanilla seeds from scraping the inside of the vanilla pod and mix.

Next put your flour, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon and baking powder in a bowl and whisk together; add the buttermilk and egg mixture gradually while stirring to make as lump free as possible. Stir well until all combined and there are no lumps.

Melt your coconut oil in a pan and add to your pancake mixture and stir again. Then you are ready to begin cooking your Sugar Free Pancakes!

Put your pan on a medium/high head and add in a few spoonfuls of batter (2 tbsp works best but feel free to add as little or as much as you want, depending on how big you like your pancakes). Cook the pancake on one side until the pancakes edges have formed and then flip it over and continue to cook it until it has browned. Repeat until you have run out of mixture.

Lastly, top them how you would like. I went savoury at first, and added bacon and mushrooms; I also tried out a sweet combination by adding frozen banana and homemade Sugar Free apple and strawberry crumble! When making them I made a double batch, and on the second I replaced the cinnamon with a 1/4 cup of raw cacao powder which gave it a completely different taste!

I hope you enjoyed the recipe for Sugar Free Pancakes, let me know if you tried them out, and if you enjoyed them as much as I did! Also let me know if you'd like to hear more about my Sugar Free diet as I was considering writing a post about it. Thanks for reading,

My First Pair of Dr. Martens

I am very excited about this post because I very recently got my first pair of Dr. Martens! The sole came off my last pair of boots, which is understandable from a cheap pair from New Look, that I've had for about a year. I thought it was time to replace them, and what's better than a pair of Dr. Martens?

I've wanted a pair for ages but never really got round to it, or had the money for them with the price being fairly expensive. However, once I found out that I could buy them in a junior size (as I have tiny feet in size 3!) making them cheaper... my mind was made up and I knew I had to get a pair of Dr. Martens.

I went for the Infants Delaney in black because I wanted boots that I could wear with everything, which I certainly have. I've barely taken them off so far too because I love them so much; I really don't remember what I wore before!

They've been really comfortable so far, once I had gone through the gruelling process of breaking them in! But, I am now converted and believe that everyone should own their own pair of DMs because they are so comfy and wear so well! I especially love that Dr. Martens don't use animal by products and are produced in cruelty-free conditions.

I would completely recommend them if you're looking for strong, long-lasting boots that look amazing! Have you ever tried Dr Martens? Let me know in the comments below, thank you for reading,
