Hunger Games Tag

During the month that I've had off from Dance School I've felt that it was the perfect time to start reading again. When I'm away I really don't get the time I would like to read and so I really try to make up for it when I'm home. First on my list this holiday was to re-read the Hunger Games trilogy as I wanted to read them again before seeing Mockingjay Part 2 in the Cinema. Since reading them I've rekindled my love for them and it really got me thinking about what I would be like in the Games; so I thought I would do the Hunger Games Tag.

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains spoilers from the entire trilogy of books; if you haven't yet finished reading them, I don't want to ruin the books so stop reading this post now!!

1. What is your favourite book in the Hunger Games trilogy?

I love the first book as it got me hooked to The Hunger Games, but Mockingjay is my favourite as it hit me right in the feels and gave me so much to think about. I stayed up incredibly late while on a school trip to France because I was hooked and wanted to finish it; I was in floods of tears by the end! To this day it's probably the best book I've ever read and it still resonates with me every time I read it.

2. How long would you last in the Hunger Games?

I would really love to say that I would win the Games, but unfortunately I don't think that it's the case! I think that my strategy would be similar to either Rue or Foxface by hiding long enough for everyone else to kill each other. I went to Scouts when I was younger so know some basic survival skills, but I don't think that I would do well at the hand to hand combat or be able to kill anyone. The only problem with this tactic is that I feel the Game makers would cause something (like the fires in the first book) to get me closer to the other Tributes and lure me to my death.

3. What is the strangest thing you thought happened in the books?

I feel that every book in the trilogy continually shocked me by going in different directions to what I initially thought. I had no idea what was going to happen in each chapter which left me on edge and is probably why I love the series so much. But I remember thinking that it was so strange that Katniss instantly understood Beetee's plan, knew what to do and shot the arrow at the forcefield in Catching Fire.

4. How were you introduced to the Hunger Games?

My sister is an even bigger Bookworm than I am and she said that she thought I would love the trilogy. Usually I trust her judgement so I went ahead and began reading; then I was hooked right from the start.

5. Favourite moment that happens in the Hunger Games?

Oh gosh, there are too many to choose from! My favourite moment in the Hunger Games is the secret messages that Haymitch sends to Katniss through his distribution of the sponsors' gifts, it's so clever. But I also love the ending of Mockingjay when all the games are over and Katniss and Peeta can live peacefully with their two young children after everything they went through.

6. Favourite Villain?

Major spoilers here: I really like how sneaky President Coin of District 13 is as you don't know until your quite far into Mockingjay that she's actually a villain; I particularly hated how she suggested another Hunger Games after everything had happened. I was so happy when Katniss shot her instead of President Snow at the end of Mockingjay!

7. Who is your favourite character?

Other than the obvious choice of Katniss as we see the stories through her eyes, I love Peeta and how much he loves and cares for Katniss. I also love how funny Finick is (I was so gutted when he gave his live to save the others from the Mutts in Mockingjay), I admire how clever and cunning Foxface was in Book 1 and I love Prim (who doesn't?).

8. What district would you live in?

I think that I would live in Distict 11 as I think I would be similar to Rue in the fact that I'm small, I can climb trees well and could get the fruit down well from the trees in the orchards. But I'm not sure that it would be the best one to live in due to how poor it is and the security is particularly harsh and cruel! I'd much rather live in the Capital or one of the wealthier districts, such as District 1 handling the Luxury items!

9. What was the most emotional moment in the books for you?

Definitely when Prim died, this was completely shocking to me and I was so so emotional over this death. It was so ironic that Katniss had done everything she could in the books to save Prim and by the end she just couldn't save her life. It really hit me emotionally. I was also really emotional when Peeta and Katniss were reunited in District 13 and because he was hijacked he strangled her.

10. What item from home would you take into the Arena with you?

I would love to have something similar to the gold necklace that has the pictures of Katniss' family in as it would be a content reminder during the games that I would need to survive if I wanted to get back to my family and friends.

11. What was the most evil plan someone made in the books?

When the 75th Hunger Games was announced and victors had to go back into the arena was incredibly evil! Also President Coin's bombs, killing the Capitals children and lots of the medics, including Prim was so evil. And when Coin suggested making future children compete in another Hunger Games. When Peeta was hijacked with the Trackerjacker poisons to turn him against Katniss is definitely up there too.

12. What was your favourite part of the movie?

I think finally getting to see the Hunger Games arena was my favourite as it suddenly came to life in front of my eyes which I loved. I also loved their casting as I felt that the actors were perfectly suited to the characters they portrayed, which is a rarity!
